Amused[edit]

So, thank you for the thanks - I was surprised to see you are in St Louis! I haz family in that there city.

Anyway - I followed the links you provided on your user page and had a very amusing time with google translate. I didn't recognise "Cadhan Aonair" (My Irish is not that good). So I let google translate the page and it claimed it was Single Cows. No, I thought, that's not it. So I stuck Cadhan into a google translate which claimed it was the hindi for resources. I changed it to Irish and it returned rabbits. So I just googled it and it gave me Brent goose. Finally one of the dictionary results suggested lone bird. This has been quite the amusing adventure. Meanwhile I find myself hoping you could take a minute to cast your eye over the various recent Irish language related women I have written articles/Stubs for to see if there are any horrible glaring translation errors since I mostly use machine translation for support. ☕ Antiqueight chatter 20:01, 14 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

And I see you did find an error. Thank you. ☕ Antiqueight chatter 20:09, 14 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Single Cows!! That's great. I just tweeted that out to Irish-speaking Twitter for a laugh. Happy to look over the articles you've written - maith thú for the work you've done so far, and I'm inspired by your long to-do list as well! Kevin Scannell (talk) 23:16, 14 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Husseybot questions[edit]

Hi Kevin, Husseybot is a great benefit, wonderful for picking up the odd missing fada here and séimhiú there, and I'm very grateful for it! However there's a puzzling message on the Úsáideoir:HusseyBot page, which I looked at just out of interest. It says "Riarthóirí: má tá an róbó seo ag sainmhíniú no ag déanamh damáiste, cuir cosc air, le do thoil." Although I'm no expert in the language, I'm sure the bot would be the first to notice that 'no' is missing a fada! But also, is 'ag sainmhíniú' (defining) really the word that was intended here? Dmhball~enwiki (talk) 14:36, 1 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Dmhball — thanks... I'm hoping to greatly improve the quality of the Irish articles. Plenty of work to do! That message looks like it comes from the Irish translation of Wikipedia, which unfortunately suffers from the same quality issues as many of the articles on ga.wikipedia.org. And yes, "sainmhíniú" is clearly wrong... so wrong that I can't even guess what the original English message was. Maybe I'll look into applying some of these automated checks to the translation files. Kevin Scannell (talk) 16:35, 1 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
