The Pop Music Portal

Pop music is a genre of popular music that originated in its modern form during the mid-1950s in the United States and the United Kingdom. During the 1950s and 1960s, pop music encompassed rock and roll and the youth-oriented styles it influenced. Rock and pop music remained roughly synonymous until the late 1960s, after which pop became associated with music that was more commercial, ephemeral, and accessible.

Identifying factors of pop music usually include repeated choruses and hooks, short to medium-length songs written in a basic format (often the verse–chorus structure), and rhythms or tempos that can be easily danced to. Much of pop music also borrows elements from other styles such as rock, urban, dance, Latin, and country. (Full article...)

Agnes Monica Muljoto (born 1 July 1986), known professionally as AGNEZ MO (stylized in all caps), is an Indonesian singer, songwriter, dancer, and actress. As a bilingual singer who records in both Indonesian and English, she is known for her image reinventions and musical versatility throughout her career.

Prior to recording three children's albums and presenting several children's television programs, Mo began as a worship singer at a church in Jakarta. She released her first teen album And the Story Goes, in 2003, which catapulted her name in the Indonesian music industry. Her success in Indonesia encouraged her

Let Go is the debut studio album by Canadian singer-songwriter Avril Lavigne, released on 4 June 2002, by Arista Records. Critics have described Let Go as an alternative rock album with a pop-punk and post-grunge-oriented sound.The album is considered to have transformed the pop-punk music scene, integrating the genre to the mainstream and contributing to the rise of female-fronted pop-punk music acts. The album has sold over 16 million copies worldwide, making it Lavigne's highest-selling album to date and the best selling album of the 21st century by a Canadian artist. A Rolling Stone readers' poll named Let Go the fourth best album of the 2000s..

The album was credited as the biggest pop debut of 2002. According to Billboard, the album was the 21st-best-selling album of the decade. It was certified 7x Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in the United States, and it received a diamond certification from Music Canada. "What You Waiting For?" is a song by American singer Gwen Stefani from her debut solo studio album, Love. Angel. Music. Baby. (2004). Written by Stefani and Linda Perry, the song is the album's opening track and was released as Stefani's debut solo single. Lyrically, "What You Waiting For?" details Stefani's lack of inspiration and fear of producing the album, as well as her reaction to pressures exerted by her record label. It is primarily an electropop song and introduces Stefani's four backup dancers, the Harajuku Girls, who had a major input into the album's production.

"What You Waiting For?" was released as the album's lead single; according to Stefani, as an "explanation for doing the record". The song was well received by critics and was frequently cited as a highlight of the album. The single was commercially successful, topping the chart in Australia and reaching the top 10 in several countries. It was certified gold in the United States, and was nominated for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance at the 47th Annual Grammy Awards.
