About Dohna Dohna

Dohna Dohna is an adult role-playing video game / visual novel[1] from developer Alicesoft, first released on November 27, 2020, in Japan. An English translated version by Shiravune was released on Johren Games on October 29, 2021.[2]

Dohna Dohna features heavy topics such as abuse and prostitution,[3] but combines these darker themes with a bright and cheerful aesthetic.[4]

Story

The game takes place in Asougi City, a town facing the Seto Inland Sea that has been completely taken over by a corporation. Despite their complete lack of self-determination, most of the cityfolk are content with their lives.[4]

However, the nature of the regime has given rise to some level of bubbling unrest. This unrest manifests itself in the form of the "anti-Aso" clans, who perform various acts of civil disobedience and fund themselves with a business model of "hunting" for "talent" to "hustle" (kidnapping women to pimp to paying clients).[5]

It's as the Founder's Birthday Ceremony approaches that things approach a breaking point, as Asougi's oppression worsens, the anti-Aso agitate, and the general public turns its eye to goings-on in the city...[2]

Players take control of the Nayuta clan, one of the anti-Aso forces, and through the game's mechanics control both their business and their battle operations as they strive to outcompete the other clans on the ground and ultimately topple Asougi itself.[3]

Reception

Domestically in Japan, the game was among the 2nd Place winners in the Moe Game Awards for 2020, as well as the Shopkeeper's Pick Award and the Fanza Games Pick Award.[6]

The game's visuals and sound were highly praised by reviewers,[7][8] and the game's opening theme has amassed over a million views on YouTube.[9]
