== Need help with RM ==

Hello a day or so ago I tried creating a requested move for the [[Just like Fire Would]] article as can be seen on its talk page. However it isn't listed at Requested moves, and the bot doesn't seem to notice it either. Could someone help fix this? Dead links (via template)

Greetings! Alan W. Pollack's "Notes On" series are not online anymore. This template is used for the links throughout Beatles' songs. What would be the best way to add an archived link, just ignore the template and add a link as such:

Alan W. Pollack's "Notes On" series: Archived 7 May 2020 at the Wayback Machine

    Alphabetization in "[s]ee also" lists

Could anyone please tell me if a "[s]ee also" list should always be alphabetized, is this not a rule at all, or are there exceptions?--Thylacine24 (talk) 02:56, 5 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Thylacine24: You can find the guidance at MOS:SEEALSO. If the list is lengthy, it should be sorted in a logical way, which may be alphabetical or chronological (as examples). If you have a question about the See Also section on a specific article, you can start a discussion on the talk page to get consensus. RudolfRed (talk) 03:25, 5 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
    @RudolfRed: I didn't notice that when I first visited MOS:SEEALSO. Sorry about that, and thanks.--Thylacine24 (talk) 12:11, 5 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    Upload Image

How to upload image here in Wikipedia? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mikko Agustin (talkcontribs) 06:35, 5 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Mikko Agustin very shortly, if it's an image you have taken yourself and therefore own the copyright for, the process starts here:[1]. If it's a random image you found on the web somewhere, you very likely can't. More at WP:COPYRIGHT. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 08:25, 5 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    Extra space after links

Here is an example: "... at the University of Bologna , where he"

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vittorio_Sgarbi

There is no space in the code so the issue seems to be a problem with the rendering software. Wali omer (talk) 07:01, 5 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Wali omer: I see no space and there is no space in the produced html: at the <a href="/wiki/University_of_Bologna" title="University of Bologna">University of Bologna</a>, where he. What is your browser? Do you see the space at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vittorio_Sgarbi?safemode=1#Biography? Do you see it here: "at the University of Bologna, where he". PrimeHunter (talk) 08:31, 5 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@PrimeHunter: Thank you for your reply.

    1. I use Chrome on a Chromebook with developer mode enabled. 2. Your safemode link seems to be OK. 3. The second link also is rendered without problem.

BTW, I have another problem on the Chromebook: the article previews do not show when hovering on a link. Wali omer (talk) 19:31, 5 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Wali omer: It sounds like it's Chrome doing it. Do you have a feature with justified text? If so, it will depend on the context and help explain why you don't see the same here even though I copied the code exactly. PrimeHunter (talk) 20:53, 5 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    Citing a PDF correctly

I'm making an edit to this article, Llanarth Court, but am struggling to correctly cite this PDF, [file:///C:/Users/Owner/AppData/Local/Microsoft/Windows/INetCache/IE/2IKT7K3T/Llanarth-CAA-Main-Body-mar15.pdf]. Any advice would be much appreciated. KJP1 (talk) 07:04, 5 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@KJP1: Good you sorted it out. In case you don't know the problem with the above link, file:///C: is your own hard disk and cannot be seen by others. PrimeHunter (talk) 08:43, 5 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
    Many thanks. Actually, I didn't know as I'm a technical simpleton, but I'm quite good at copying! KJP1 (talk) 08:51, 5 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    My translation is in Draft

    Hello,

I have made the translation from a french wikipedia page to an English one. As the English page now is in draft , I couldn't add on the title {{AFC submission|||ts=20200605102056|u=Gazze77a|ns=4}} : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Domuni_University Could you please help me add it, so I can submit if for review ?

    Thank you, --Gazze77a (talk) 10:20, 5 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Gazze771. I see that somebody has added the header so that you can submit. But please don't do so yet: it will certainly be declined, as it has no independent sources at all. Plese be aware and English Wikipedia has very little interest in what any subject says about themselves, and requires independent sources: please see WP:CITE. --ColinFine (talk) 13:20, 5 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Please also remove the misplaced external links from the body of the draft. If you intended them to be references, please read Help:Referencing for beginners. --David Biddulph (talk) 18:44, 5 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    Ó ( O with brace)

How do i return a page that is deleted? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.106.209.182 (talk) 11:35, 5 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Depends on why it was deleted. WP:Deletion_policy#Deletion_review may help. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 11:47, 5 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia already has an article Ó. Maybe 79's version was deleted as a duplicate. Maproom (talk) 12:00, 5 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    Difference between versions of page

An earlier version of User:Kappa/Kaaos is showing "this user page has been nominated for deletion", but the current version says "this redirect has been nominated for deletion". Yet the wiki source codes of the versions are exactly identical. What is causing this? JIP | Talk 12:33, 5 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

It was a redirect before the current version was saved.[2]. The information that it was a redirect was used by a template on saving and the rendering of the saved version was cached. I purged the page and it now says "This user page" since it's no longer a redirect. When you view a version in the page history, the cache is not used, not even if you view the most recent version [3] which already said "This user page" before my purge. Draft Page

Hello - I submitted a draft page "Roger Lynch" (Draft:Roger Lynch) months ago and seem to be stuck in the review process. I've made the requested reviewer edits and yet it's just sitting there in draft still. How do we move this process forward so it's live on Wikipedia's site?

Cdanjmarn You created a draft, but did not formally submit it for a review, nor do I see any indication it was reviewed by anyone. I will shortly add the appropriate information so you can do so. 331dot (talk) 13:43, 5 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    Contributors of Hathras

Sorry in advance if that comes out to be just my bad sceptical nature, but there is something strange about the majority of the contributors of Hathras. Majority of the contributirs don't have any user page and talk page yet. This means they are all very new. I've never seen so many new accounts working on a single page. What can it be? Lightbluerain (Talk | contribs) 18:24, 5 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Lightbluerain Could be a class of children who are editing Wikipedia for an "assignment" or something like that. If there's nothing wrong with the edits themselves, then it shouldn't be any issue. Joseph2302 (talk) 19:49, 5 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
[Edit Conflict] Lightbluerain, I don't know anything about these specific contributors, and won't speculate, but please be aware that quite a few contributors with accounts deliberately choose not to have a User page, and some don't choose to open a User account, at least initially. I myself have been active on Wikipedia for some 15 years, but for reasons partly of principal and partly of personal psychology have not (so far) created an account.
These modes of use do not violate any Wikipedia rules, so unless you see evidence of actual misuse, please Assume Good Faith. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 2.125.72.102 (talk) 19:59, 5 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Then, post your suggestion on the article talk page: Talk:Jamie Oldaker. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 00:34, 6 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Msbillings: You appear to have uploaded a copyrighted image to the English wikipedia, not to commons. The picture appears to be copyrighted, by someone other than you, so we will delete it. If you can find an image that you yourself took (so you own the copyright), we will gratefully accept it, and you can put it on Commons instead of putting it here in the en.wikipedia image repository. This works because you are free to provide a compatible copyright license for such an image. Sorry about all the hassle, but we try to be very careful about copyright. If you have trouble with uploading or providing the correct license, come back here and we can help you. After the image is uploaded, put a note on the article's talk page and we can help with getting it into the article. Feel free to make any other recommendations for article edits on the article's talk page. -Arch dude (talk) 02:33, 6 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Why Have to Tap to See an Image Using a Mobile Device

    Creating account with Captcha

I just created an account to become an editor. I followed the rules for Captcha, to the letter. The instructions say to type in the "words" (plural) on the screen. I did this many times, each time guessing where the word break might be. In no case did the letters sound like more than one word, and often not even one. After many failed attempts to create an account, I decided to type in all the letters without a space in between any of them. That worked, and my account has been created. What this tells me is that the instructions should not say "words" or even "word" but "letters." This is my first edit--I hope someone sees it and acts on it, so you don't have a lot of people who read literally (good editors are good at that!) and find themselves frustrated or, worse, alienated, by trying to follow the instructions. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Konrad Marx (talkcontribs) 15:43, 6 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry you had this problem, Konrad Marx. This page is mostly inhabited by experienced Wikipedia editors - most of us have nothing at all to do with the software. I suggest raising the issue at WP:VPT. --ColinFine (talk) 16:28, 6 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

so for relevant editing you need to include sources, am i correct but why were some of my posts being removed?

yet i did include the correct sources, for example in the Emma Thynn, Marchioness of Bath article, the term billionaire heiress is correct, as it is stated in the news article i had posted alongside it as a reference source — Preceding unsigned comment added by Missnicky1991 (talkcontribs) 16:51, 6 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Missnicky1991. I don't know why your edit was reverted: it looks all right to me. But please don't be dispirited: this is how Wikipedia works, according to the Bold, Revert, Discuss cycle: you boldly made a change, another editor reverted, and the thing to do now is to open a discussion with the editor who reverted you, Martinevans123. The best place to do this is on the talk page Emma Thynn, Marchioness of Bath, and make sure you Ping that editor. However, since you've asked here, and I've pinged Martinevans123, maybe he will come here and discuss it with you. (His talk page says he sometimes doesn't reply quickly.) --ColinFine (talk) 19:22, 6 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I am a little confused about the titles of the articles and what the concepts are behind the article. What does the concept of art in the hatnote mean? Should the hatnote be changed? Should the titles be changed? Interstellarity (talk) 17:07, 6 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Interstellarity. The place to discuss that is the talk page of one of the two articles. Look through their archives first: I wouldn't be surprised if this has been discussed before. (I haven't looked). --ColinFine (talk) 19:26, 6 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@ColinFine: But what if I post there and nobody responds within the next week? Interstellarity (talk) 21:22, 6 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Dunno, Interstellarity. Perhaps WT:WikiProject Arts? The project seems to be active, though there's nothing recent on the talk page. --ColinFine (talk) 23:03, 6 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Interstellarity, I think the hatnote for Art is helpful: Art "is about the general concept of art. For the group of creative disciplines, see The arts." So the article on Art describes topics such as art history and art theory, while the article on The arts describes branches of art such as sculpture or music. The arts is linked as the main article for the section Art#Forms, genres, media, and styles. The size of article on Art is 99 kB, which is around the maximum recommended size for an article, so a merger would produce an oversized article. TSventon (talk) 08:13, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

404 Error When Viewing Images on Mobile?

Hi, I'm very new to Wikipedia, so I hope this is the right place to ask this question. I use the Wikipedia app on my phone, sometimes when I click on the picture either above or in the drop-down box of an article, I get a 404 error that the image I'm trying to view doesn't exist. organizing airline destination articles

Hello I am a blind user who uses JAWS screen-reader. I'm wondering if I can get help in organizing the destinations on pages like List of Air Canada destinations and List of Malaysia Airlines destinations so that the terminated destinations and future destinations are in their own sections, rather than it all being in one big table. I feel this would be helpful not just to screen-reade rusers but also for those who are looking to see which destinations are terminated. I'd do it myself but am afraid I may mess up the tables completely if I do, so I'm wondering what action I can take. I already posted a talkpage message at the Air Canada one under my IP before my account was created, but no response. Not sure if it was seen. Sorry for my wordiness, but is there anything I can do to help start this process? Thanks in advance Aden Singh 45 (talk) 21:40, 6 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    <advert removed>

Not done Wikipedia is not MySpace, LiveJournal, Facebook or Twitter. You cannot create a "profile" or "page" about anything. We publish articles about subjects, including people, which are notable enough to justify an article about them in a global encyclopedia. If you ever become a notable performer, not merely one who exists, somebody else will be moved to create an article about you. Right now, it's clearly too soon to even think about such a thing. --Orange Mike | Talk 01:36, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    Subtitles

Hi I was just wondering how to create subtitles for audio. There is a file on the article United Socialist Party of Venezuela about the party anthem called "La hora del pueblo". I was going to add English subtitles, but I don't know how. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Libertad1776 (talkcontribs) 04:04, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Libertad1776: The anthem is stored at File:La Hora del Pueblo.ogg. This file is in ogg vorbis format. You will need to download that file to your computer and then edit it using an appropriate program to add the subtitles, and then upload your modified file (come back here for help with that step). Selecting and using such a program is beyond the scope of the Wikipedia help desk. The guys over on the computing reference desk (Wikipedia:Reference desk/Computing) may be able to help you. The free best-in-class Audacity (audio editor) will probably work. For audio files, the technical term is "closed captioning", not "subtitles", and apparently this distinction is important, since much of this software can be used for video also, and video uses subtitles. -Arch dude (talk) 16:34, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    Advice and Help

Hi Good Morning I need your help and advice on on the page I tried to create in 2012-13 . I tried to create a page on Muzafafr Hanfi (my father ) in 2012 . As far as I recall it was waiting for an approval for many month . After few month I did not follow up and left it as my circumstances were changed moved house etc . I used my old email Pmuz@..... to enter the details but now that email is no longer in use and I am using Pmuzaffar........... As I am not good on computer so i asked my nephew to have a look and try to creat a page on my father Muzaffar Hanfi who is awriter of urdu and has writtennearly 100 book . My nephew has informed me that modretor will allow him because page has already been created by me . Can I please request to delete the page created by me so my nephew Faizan Qudsi can create the page . [personal information removed]

Kind Regards Parvez Muzaffar — Preceding unsigned comment added by Parvez1965 (talkcontribs) 10:13, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The page you created was deleted eight years ago, because it was promotional. Here's how it started:
Urdu Poet and Critic Prof. Muzaffar Hanfi
    Posted By:bhatkallys On 3/2/2007
PROMINENT URDU WRITER CRITIC AND WELL KNOWN POET PROFESSOR MUZAFFAR HANFI
That it was promotional is not surprising, because its subject was your father. You are now asking your nephew to continue this work. Please read WP:COI for why neither you nor he should persist in this. If your father was as eminent as you say, then others who are unrelated to him will want to use independent, reliable sources to create a neutral, informative, non-promotional article about him. -- Hoary (talk) 11:40, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    "Tap to display image" why?

Recently images have not been included with the page. E. G. "supermarine spitfire" page has an initial photo but all other images were grayed out. How to get images to display without tapping? I'm using a 2015 huawei handset (please don't laugh) running some version of Android. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:C7F:96CD:3F00:8C7D:5B64:721F:CA91 (talk) 12:23, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

You don't say which browser you're using. When I use Firefox (version 68.9) on my own 2015 Android phone (a model so unremarkable even when new that the phone company was tossing them in free when one paid for the two-year contract), the photos in Supermarine Spitfire all display well, with no need for tapping. -- Hoary (talk) 12:40, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
There are settings on phones that exist that prevent certain sized images from displaying to avoid excessive data usage. Might be worth taking a look at your settings. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 12:42, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

"Tap to display image" why? cont.

No idea which browser, sorry for not being clear, it's the one that came with the phone. To the best of my knowledge I have not changed any settings on my phone. Previously all pages on Wikipedia had images included, although sometimes there was a delay in showing them on my phone. Now all images on every page have all images except the first grayed out with "tap to display image" What do I need to do to get the images automatically without tapping? I don't mind the slight delay. This problem began suddenly a day or two ago. From what I have read, other people are having the same problem. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:C7F:96CD:3F00:8C7D:5B64:721F:CA91 (talk) 13:41, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

using an image from another wikipedia

Hi, what's the correct syntax to be able to use this image in an infobox here on enwiki? Thanks for your help! Dr. Vogel (talk) 21:01, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think that's possible. If you want an image to be displayed on multiple Wikimedia sites, you should upload it to Wikimedia Commons. Note however that Commons has stricter rules about image licences than individual Wikipedia sites have. This allows individual Wikipedia sites to set their own rules about image licences without disrupting others. JIP | Talk 21:36, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
    • That links to the image, does not display it. JIP | Talk 21:54, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@DrVogel: that image appears to be CC-BY-SA and therefore can and should be moved or copied to Commons. I don't read Galego(?) so I cannot be sure, but the image has the correct creative commons icons. I also do not know what process could be used on at gl.wikipedia.org or at Commons to cause a move to occur. Legally, a copy (download, then upload) would be acceptable, but surely there is a better way. Maybe ask at the Commons help desk. -Arch dude (talk) 21:49, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@DrVogel: Take a look at Wikipedia:Moving files to Commons. I think you can just directly run the "fileinfo" app by clicking on its name in the table, but you will first need to read the licensing description (in Galego or after translating it somehow) and then working through the decision tree to be certain the file really is a candidate fro Commons. -Arch dude (talk) 22:18, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, thanks a lot for your advice. I read the "moving files to commons" page as you suggested. I followed the flowchart and the answer is yes to everything, so the outcome is "OK for commons". So then I went on to try to use the tools given on that same page. I tried the top 3 tools and all of them either crash or throw errors or don't work at all. Dr. Vogel (talk) 00:04, 8 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@DrVogel: The maintainer for Fileinfo is listed as Magog the Ogre. Perhaps you can ask on that editor's talk page? I think I've reached the utter limits of my knowledge on this.-Arch dude (talk) 00:17, 8 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. I could just download the file and upload it myself at commons, but that feels wrong. Surely it should be possible to just move it? Dr. Vogel (talk) 02:35, 8 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The other reason why I'm a bit apprehensive about doing this is, why is the tool failing to do the job? Is there anything particular about this file that we need to be aware of? Dr. Vogel (talk) 18:57, 9 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia considers a convicted terrorist a hero???

Hi there, I came across Eric Rudolph's wikipedia page and noted he is described as an American hero for his role in bombings which killed innocent people. I changed hero to terrorist but was informed this does not comply with Wikipedia's policy and has been reverted to the original. I won't change it again but will leave it up to you as to which word is most appropriate and least offensive. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.8.44.170 (talk) 02:08, 8 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, the history of the page shows that "hero" wasn't up for long (27 minutes), and your revision to terrorist is still live in the article. I think that the message placed on your talkpage might have been put there in error, and was meant for the user who originally changed "terrorist" to "hero". Perhaps @Drmies could clarify? Unable to upload photo

    Dear Mr or Ms,

Regards, Latvian National opera and ballet — Preceding unsigned comment added by Latvijas Nacionalā opera un balets (talkcontribs) 09:37, 8 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Latvijas Nacionalā opera un balets. How were you trying to upload it? What happened to make you unable to? And (most important), what is the copyright status of the picture?
Also please note that (as mentioned in the message on your talk page) your account name is not acceptable, because it appears to represent an organisation (all accounts are for individuals, and may not be shared); and if you are planning to do anything to the existing article Latvian National Opera (including adding an image), please familiarise yourselves with our policies on conflict of interest and paid editing before you do so. --ColinFine (talk) 11:56, 8 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
As I understand or misunderstand this, if either
    • (A) the photographer died in or before 1945 (regardless of the first publication of the photograph)
    or
    • (B) both (i) the photographer died in or before 1949 and (ii) the photograph was first published in what is now Latvia in or before 1924,
then the photograph is in the public domain, and may be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons (thanks to which it may be used in the Wikipedia of any language).
I'm assuming that the photograph originated in what is now Latvia; if the first performance was instead in exile in, say, France, then I suppose that French (and not Latvian) copyright law would apply. Indeed, there are many possible complexities and points that I may have misunderstood, so you'd better ask at Wikimedia Commons for expert (Latvian?) opinion. -- Hoary (talk) 12:17, 8 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The above is incomplete. If the photo was published in the US after 1924 and before 1964, and the copyright was properly renewed, or from 1964-1978 (when renewal was automatic) then it is still protected by US copyright, no matter when the photographer died. If it was first published anywhere before 1924, it is now in the public domain under US law, again no matter when the photographer died. There are some possible further complications if the photographer made the original photo as part of regular employment, such that it constituted a work-made-for-hire, which can make the employer the "author" of the photo under US law (although not under the law of various other countries) and again make the death date of the photographer not relevant. Subsectioning

User A creates a section every time A needs to address a certain topic. Discussion starts, but user A replies by creating a new section. Discussion continues and the user is asked to stop creating sections. User A creates still another section to reply. And so on...

Is there a guideline that could suggest the user to stop this behavior? Is it disruptive?

Also, are we allowed to transform the consecutive sections in subsections of a bigger section? (without changing section titles nor moving discussions up or down).--ReyHahn (talk) 11:49, 8 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, ReyHahn and welcome to the Help desk. See Wikipedia:Refactoring talk pages and Editing others' comments. There is more advice here about creating sections and subsection than about joining them, however. See also WP:TALKNEW where it says: Don't create a new heading that duplicates an existing heading: If you are responding to a comment or adding to a discussion on a particular topic, respond after the comment or at the bottom of the existing section.
In general I would say that the practice you describe is at least mildly disruptive, and that combining A's comments by joining them into a single section, or by making the separate sections into subsections is justifiable, provided that the meaning and context of A's comments is not changed. It is also permitted to change headings if this adds to clari8ty and does not change the maning of any editor's comments. You can ask A not to comment in this way. If it becomes serio0usly disruptive you could take the matter to WP:ANI, but I would be quite reluctant to do that. I hope that is helpful. Depreciated source?

I recently tried to cite this news article, but I got a notice saying that it's a depreciated source. It wasn't a big deal since I was able to find another source with the same information, but I can't find ETToday listed at Wikipedia:Deprecated sources. @JzG: Thanks for the reply. I totally understand why the Epoch Times is depreciated, but I find it strange that ETToday is blocked as well, considering that ETToday is a Taiwanese news outlet that has (to my knowledge) no affiliation with Falun Gong. The RfC also has no mention of ETToday as well. What exactly do you mean by "linked in a couple of articles as Epoch Times"?   Ganbaruby!  (Say hi!) 09:28, 9 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Ganbaruby, it was listed as the url in citation templates identified as Epoch Times in some articles, presumably syndicated content. Guy (help!) 10:52, 9 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@JzG: I see that this issue was previously brought up on your talk page by User:Newslinger. I do find it odd that ETtoday's articles were attributed to Epoch, but ETtoday's Chinese wiki page and some quick Google searches in both English and Chinese don't point to ETtoday ever coming under Epoch's ownership. This makes me think that the cite url template was just incorrectly filled out. Could you point me to the list of places ETtoday was identified as Epoch? With my Chinese ability, I can personally go through them and let you know what I find, and if anything, cut down on pages still sourcing Epoch.   Ganbaruby!  (Say hi!) 16:35, 9 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Ganbaruby, not without wading through a large number of diffs, no. But it doesn't really matter: I fixed the filter this morning. I would have done it when Newslinger mentioned it but I got distracted, sorry. Guy (help!) 17:05, 9 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

It's possible but in this case you can effectively do it yourself. Since you are the only contributor you are allowed to copy-paste the content per Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. You can move it back and then copy-paste to mainspace instead of moving. See Wikipedia:Redirect#How to edit a redirect or convert it into an article. If there are other contributors then the page has to be moved to preserve the page history for attribution. PrimeHunter (talk) 23:46, 8 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Assambrew, just to check - is there anything sensitive in the page history that you're worried about? I haven't looked through it, but it (for example) you copied some material from a source which would have been in violation of copyright, but have now rewritten in your own words, I'd be happy to do a CV revdel on it. If it's just tinkering around with prose, I wouldn't worry about removing it (anyone dredging through the early versions of any of my articles will surely find the same sort of thing). Don't waste your time unless you are satisfied the subject is notable.. After you have established that your subject is notable, proceed to WP:YFA to learn how to create the article. It is obviously not yet fit to go live, as it has no references to published reliable sources independent of the subject to prove its notability under Wikipedia's definition. --David Biddulph (talk) 19:00, 9 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, Jonscottcorp. The draft is "live" in the sense that anybody in the world can see it if they know to look, and contribute to it if they choose. But drafts are not accepted into the encylclopaedia until they meet our minimum requirements for an encyclopaedia article. If you moved your draft to main space now, it would very quickly get either deleted, or perhaps moved back to draft. Please see WP:NCORP and WP:CITE, and remember that Wikipedia is basically not interested in what the subject of an article says (or wants to say) about themselves: it is only interested in what people who have no connection with the subject have chosen to publish about the subject (in reliable places). Also note that Wikipedia may not be used for promotion, no matter how worthy the cause may be. --ColinFine (talk) 20:44, 9 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I added the updates. Is it compliant to go live? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jonscottcorp (talkcontribs) 22:03, 9 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Jonscottcorp If you were to submit the draft for review right now, it would be rejected. Your draft just tells about the organization. Wikipedia articles must do more, they must summarize what independent reliable sources say about an organization, indicating how it meets the special Wikipedia definition of a notable organization. Wikipedia is not interested in how the organization describes itself or in what it considers to be its own mission, it is only interested in what others say about the organization. You list some links to what appear to be stories about or related to the organization, but in reading the article text they don't seem to be mentioned and the text reads as a promotional brochure for the organization. You may wish to read Your First Article for more information.
I will add the submission information so you can submit it at a later time after you have worked on it some more- but again you shouldn't submit it yet. 331dot (talk) 22:22, 9 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
If you are associated with this nonprofit, you must review and comply with conflict of interest and paid editing. 331dot (talk) 22:23, 9 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Article on company or it's products?

Alright, so there's this company I want to write an article on, the thing is, reliable sources only ever talk about the company's products and not the company itself. WP:PRODUCT says that it's recommended that any information on a company's products should be in the article of the company rather than then having "multiple stubs about each individual product", but I don't want to create an article on a company just to have it be primarily about the company's products as per WP:OFFTOPIC. Likewise, I'd rather not create a "List of products manufactured by <insert company name here>" as per WP:NOTDIRECTORY. So what's my course of action?Americanfreedom (talk) 19:33, 9 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Americanfreedom: For the Acme company, if Acme's products are notable, then "Acme products" would be an acceptable article. It's not a list. However, I'm skeptical that the products will be notable. You would need to meet WP:N, finding multiple independent substantial references in reliable sources that are independent of the source. As a separate issue, if you are associated with the company please read and adhere to WP:COI. If you are being compensated by the company in any way, you must comply with WP:PAID. If your username is the name of a company, you must change it (WP:USERNAME). -Arch dude (talk) 20:34, 9 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
    • If the products would all amount to nothing more than stubs, then perhaps start the article as "list of X products", fleshing out the descriptions, pictures, etc as you go. At some point it may make sense to fork them off, or alternately if it is comprehensive and well sourced, you may have a FL on your hands. CrowCaw 22:19, 9 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    When Can I Post Pages?

What are the basic protocols for being able to post a new page?

I've met 10 edits so far - ranging from small tweaks to a couple sentences. Is there a certain ranking you must achieve before having this ability? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jthorp72 (talkcontribs) 21:40, 9 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Jthorp72: Hi, you can usually start creating articles when your account is 4 days old and has made 10 edits. See Wikipedia:User_access_levels#Autoconfirmed_and_confirmed_users for different user access levels. If your account is not confirmed or autoconfirmed yet then you can still create an article at Wikipedia:Articles_for_creation and your article will be reviewed Pi (Talk to me!) 21:46, 9 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Jthorp72 Even if you are technically able to create articles (not just "page") yourself, it is strongly advised that you use Articles for Creation to create and submit a draft for review by another editor, so you find any problems before the article is formally a part of the encyclopedia, instead of afterwards when it will be treated more critically. Many don't realize that successfully creating a new Wikipedia article is the absolute hardest thing to do on Wikipedia. It's good to have some other eyes on your work for the first attempt. 331dot (talk) 22:26, 9 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    Need help with this article

I was rudely spoken to by one of your main editors:

My son's father Adam Stanger, all of his information is basically wrong... and there is no mention of too much truthfulness... Adam doesn't use the computer and so I was fixing things and adding missing information including the fact that he has never been African American, he is Panamanian and American. Also there is a lot of wrong information regarding about his touring with Jerry Cantrell. He was hired with his band, "Comes With The Fall" to do double duty and was thrown off of the tour two different times, because they were feeding him drugs... on top of that... His son, CoryAdam Rogers/Stanger deserves to be recognized as a part of his life. I don't appreciate some person that didn't even see or live what went on to try and write fiction and I'm so glad I only gave money to you guys once, because as far as I can see, you have a rude bunch of morons running this site. I will not take this lightly and I don't care if I'm banned. You all want to write a fake write up on a musician rather than the truth. He's done more than you're giving him credit for and I am going to just tell people that your page is the worst place to look for information. As I came across another one of my exes and I'm not even mentioned and was with him for over 4 years. So, good luck with your fictional information. I don't want to be famous, but Adam's son does deserve to be mentioned as he is his only living child and was introduced at the Hard Rock Cafe' by Jerry Cantrell, himself, as part of the line-up that night ( our son )... So, why don't you all work on your rude factor before you hand out your badges to idiots with no knowledge of the truth.
