Menashi (目梨郡, -gun) is a District located in Nemuro Subprefecture, Hokkaidō, Japan. As of 2004, its population is estimated at 6,752 and its area is 397.84 km². The district was one of the settings of the Menashi-Kunashir Battle of 1789.
Towns
History
- 1869 Hokkaidō divided into Provinces and Districts, Menashi District created and placed in Nemuro Province.
- April 1, 1923 Chashikotsu Village from Notsuke district, Shibetsu Village and Ichani Village from Shibetsu District, Chuurui Village, Kunnebetsu (?) Village and Sakimui?? Village (崎無意村) from Menashi District merge to form Shibetsu Village (now Shibetsu Town) in Shibetsu District.
