For one, stage combat has certainly not “always existed.” It did not exist before the formation of the earth or the evolution of humans, etc. More specifically, the reference to Aristophanes’ play is unconvincing here for several reasons. For one, A. is rather late in the timeline of ancient Greek drama, having been born after the death of Aeschylus.
